The founder of our school, Kanamori Sowa, was born as the eldest son of the lord of Hida Takayama Castle. Despite being disowned, he moved to Kyoto and engaged with the court salons of Emperor Go-Mizunoo and other nobles, significantly influencing the tea practices within the imperial court. His style is believed to have been influenced by Sen Doan and Oribe.

Known for his preference for elegant utensils, he was affectionately called "Hime Sowa" and guided potter Nonomura Ninsei to create his favored tea ceramics. Despite his contributions, the Sowaryu school remains relatively unknown due to the challenges faced by subsequent generations.

We aim to widely promote Kanamori Sowa's achievements and pass on his tea practices beyond the boundaries of our school. We cordially invite you to join us as a Special Member to support this endeavor.

Udagawa Soko, 18th Generation Head of Sowaryu
